My Dearest,

You are the first one I ever fell in love with. I held you 6 hours after you were born and you wrapped your little fingers around mine and I felt tears. I felt genuine love for you since you were born. You’ve been my rock through every rough time. You have been my saving grace and my source of happiness and laughter for every single minute since that day that you were born to your beautiful mother. You are so smart, and never let anyone tell you different. You can do anything you put your mind to, and if someone tells you that you cant? Point them to me, and I’ll have words for them. Today, I was listening to one of my favorite poems and this passage stuck out to me:

“You will put the “wind” in win some lose some, you will put the “star” in starting over and over, and no matter how many land mines erupt in a minute, be sure your mind lands on the beauty of this funny place called life.
And yes, on a scale from one to over-trusting I am pretty damn naive, but I want her to know that this world is made out of sugar. It can crumble so easily, but don’t be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it.”

I am naive, I trust to easily and you know that already at 4, but you also know the amount of love is shown is the amount is shown back to you. Always show love with no wants for anything in return. Give, and walk away with a smile. I will always worry about you whether you’re 2 or 22, and will call just to hear your voice and see pictures of you that will always melt my heart. Good things will come to you my love. So sing loud in the car, run fast through the grass. Enjoy the little moments my dear. I promise, to always be a phone call away to bail you out of any situation. I promise to hold you close when you’re hurt and protect you from anyone with ill intentions. I promise you, this world is not all sunshines and rainbows but I promise you it will be worth it, and your life will be a perfect song. Not every day will be beautiful, but you can always find beautiful things in the most ordinary situations. Never stop asking questions, and searching for things to learn about and never stop running and singing and dancing. I want you to never stop speaking out and voicing your concerns.. But my biggest want for you is to love hard. Love hard and love wrecklessly. Give love to people who may not deserve even just your breath, but give them love anyway, because that heart of yours? Is so pure, and cares about the people around you so deeply that I wish the adults in this world could be more like you.

I will always love you,

Your God-Mother.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
