An Open Letter To My Senior Class

An Open Letter To My Senior Class
Mooreland High School

We have all come a long ways away in these short two years. We are all becoming who we were truly meant to be. Some of us are already married and have a few kids of our own. Some of us are happily engaged and starting a future with our significant other. Some of us are slaying it at being single, and some of us are still trying to pick up the pieces that another lover has left behind. Some of us are still pursuing forward in our college careers. Some of us have already made immense impacts on our college campus, and the rest of the student body. Some of us are still participating in sports at a college level. While some of us are simply just trying to get by and graduate. Some of us have made the decision that college really wasn’t cut out for us. Some of us never even attempted college and have made some very poor decisions. Some of us have made courageous decisions and are fighting for our country. Some of us already have a career and are fabulously styling hair. Some of us are even on our way to becoming total rock stars. Some of us are still extremely good friends with one another, and some of us have drifted away from one another to make room for new college friends. Some of us have no idea what we want to do with the rest of our lives, and some of us know exactly what we want out of life and more. Most importantly, some of us already lived the life that God has set out for us and are celebrating an eternity of pure joy watching above from Heaven. Besides our beloved classmate, some of us have already suffered losses from other family members or friends.

Who we were in high school is definitely not who we are today, and who we are today is certainly not who we are going to be at the end of our journey. The point is that no matter what we are going through, we are all still tied together. We have been there for each other in good times, and in bad. I am fully aware that some of us would like nothing more than to forget our high school experiences, but to me, it shaped us into the young adults we are today. I hope for nothing but success for each and every one of you. Whether you’re a bulldog, a sooner, a ranger, a poke, a marine, an airman, a bronco, a jet, a mother, a father, a wife, a friend, or even an angel I hope you go far in life. I hope you overcome any obstacle small or large, and make the most out of the life you were given. We may never see each other anymore, but I hope we never forget that our roots came from an itty bitty town that we were all working so hard to get out of.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
