An Open Letter To My Siblings As We Grow Older

The greatest gift our parents ever gave us was each other.

As we are getting older, and you are starting little families of your own, I want you both to know how much you mean to me.

From standing on furniture, pretending the floor was hot lava, to having babies and planning weddings, we've sure come a long way. One thing that hasn't changed is the way I look up to you guys. Even after all this time, I still find things in you that amaze me and inspire me to be more like you. Though we all have different personalities, I love when people tell me that they see qualities of you in me, because if I am anything like either of you then I must be doing something right.

Thank you for always being there to protect me. Whether it was driving across town to threaten an ex-boyfriend or letting me skip school to hang out with you all day because I needed you, I’ll always be grateful that you had my back.

Thank you for making me stronger. Maybe it was all of the wrestling matches in the living room or the way you told me to suck it up when I was being a drama queen, either way, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the tough love you’ve shown me.

I know I can always count on you to be the ones who encourage me to reach my goals. Even if that’s to eat an entire chocolate cake in one sitting, I know you’ll be there cheering me on. You have helped me reach goals that I didn’t even know I had before and sometimes when I’m feeling a little lost or confused you give me some much-needed inspiration and advice to help me succeed.

I promise to love you even when I hate you. Because let’s be honest, you do some questionable stuff sometimes, but I like ya anyway. You both sure do make life interesting, and I wouldn’t trade that for all the chicken nuggets in the world, and I think we all know how special that is.

I promise to love your babies like my own. You have given me a lot of things in my lifetime, but the most valuable thing you have given me so far is the privilege of being an aunt. I promise to always spend way too much money on all the cute clothes I see and to take a ridiculous amount of pictures of them, but I also promise to protect them and love them as much as I possibly can. The one thing that is better than being an Aunt is watching you being a damn good parent.

It feels like yesterday when we used to share a bath and fight over the front seat of the car, and it is hard to believe that so much time has passed since then. We’ve been best friends and we’ve been enemies, but if there is one thing that I can forever count on, it’s that we will always be family. New memories and milestones are ahead of us and we don’t know where that will take us in life, but even if we end up living a block away, across town, or states away from each other, please know that I'll always be there when you need me. You make my life better just by being in it, and I will always love you.

Forever,

Your little sis

"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together...there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart...I'll always be with you." - Winnie The Pooh

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
