An Open Letter To My Owner

Dear Owner,

Since the time we first met we have been inseparable. You picked me from the rest, you saw that it was meant to be. You feed me some of your foods, you scratch me in all the right places, and even when I do something wrong you never stay mad at me very long. I'm writing this letter to you to share all of our memories and times when you were just the best!

It all started on the day you picked me out of the litter.

You picked me because I was the smallest one out of all my brothers and sisters and you thought that if you didn't pick me nobody would. I admit I looked kind of funny because my paws were turned out and I had an extra rib but it didn't matter to you. You brought me inside and let me pick out my first toy. Then you went to the other human and said my name was Wrigley and that I was yours.

Time with you flew by so fast! We went on walks, went to the library, and before I knew it, it was summer time! One day you went shopping and came home with this awesome white shirt!

Like I said I liked your shirt, it was just missing something....MY HAIR! You just needed a few little black hairs on it, just so you could smell me when you went out. I rolled on your shirt for hours and when you found it all covered in my hair your mouth dropped. I knew you would love my present!

Summer came and went in a flash and I was now 8 months old! It was now October and I experienced my first ever Halloween. You dressed me up as some sort of bug and I had never looked so dapper in my life!

I went outside with you and walked through the crunchy leaves while you handed out candy to other tiny humans. This was my first time in costume and with you as my owner it definitely won't be the last!

Yup, definitely wasn't my last time in costume. You dressed me up as Rudolph for Christmas and although this costume wasn't nearly as flattering on my thighs I still pulled it off and got lots of presents to boot! I can't wait until we can cuddle and watch Christmas specials again.

Before I knew it, it was my birthday and I turned one!

You threw me a party with hats, balloons, streamers, and my very own cake! My "Grandowners" even came to see me for the occasion, I was so surprised!

A few months after my birthday the sad part came, you were getting ready to leave for college.

The morning that you were leaving I tried to lay on your foot and weigh you down so you couldn't leave but it didn't work. You left for a whole year, and I missed my best friend every day. Although you came back on weekends and breaks sometimes it wasn't the same.

You came back for me, though! Now you are with me and we have all the time in the world together! You are the best owner and friend I could ever ask for. You stick by my side when I'm sick, scratch me when I'm itchy, and even pick up my poop (I'm so sorry btw). I love you so much and I can't wait for forever with you.

Love,

Wrigley

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
