An Open Letter to my Old Best Friend

Hey, how's it going? I haven't talked to you in forever. I hope all is well with you and your family. Tell your mom and dad hi for me. I see them on Facebook from time to time. Your mom actually poked me the other day! I can't drive around our old neighborhood without thinking about all the stupid things we used to do like neighborhood hide and seek. On foot we thought we had some good hiding spots, but when I drive around I found some pretty great spots. No one would have ever found us!

I'm not sure why we lost contact or what happened to our friendship. Maybe it was because I moved off to a different college than you. Or was it because I started to get serious with my boyfriend and you felt like I didn't have time for you? I know it probably doesn't matter now, but I would have never put someone in front of our friendship. Yes, my now fiancé is my world, but our friendship was supposed to last forever. We were inseparable. when my fiancé and I first started dating he knew that you were my best friend and no one would come between us, and he understood and respected that. You were my day one, my ride or die. Heck, we used to ride around everywhere and almost die! We had some great times when we were younger didn't we? Just know that no matter what, I will always cherish all of the memories we made. I always see something that reminds me of you and all the great times we had.

I miss texting you as soon I wake up to see what kind of trouble we were going to get into that day. Remember that time we were running around the neighborhood and my neighbor put up no trespassing signs around his yard? Or that time we watched my neighbors get into a fight and his girlfriend or whatever she was got a sledgehammer and went to town on his truck and later got arrested? We always figured out something to do no matter what kind of day it was.

I don't know what you're doing anymore or what you're majoring in even, but no matter what just know that I'm in the back cheering you on. I hope you're living your dreams and having fun and doing you. You will always be special to me and hold a special place in my heart. We may not talk now, but I hope that some day in the future our paths will cross again and we catch up. I work all the time, but I'm always down to go eat and catch up sometime. My number is the same if you want to hit me up. I love you and you will always be one of the best friends I have ever had. Thanks for being there for me through our school days. You helped me out so much more than you'll ever know.

You're old best friend, with love

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
