An Open Letter To My New College Friends

Dear new college friends,

As someone who didn't have the best experience with friends in high school, starting over and creating new friendships in college was one of the things that I was looking forward to most as I began my freshman year of college. Luckily for me, it didn't take long to find these new friends that I am almost certain will last a life time. You guys have quickly managed to make a new place feel like home.

I don't think I've said it enough, or maybe even said it at all, but thank you. Thank you for instantly accepting me and loving me for who I am. Thank you for not judging me when my hair looks wet because of how greasy it is and for still willingly being seen in public with me no matter how ridiculous any of us look or act. Thanks for making the transition away from my old friends and family easier by becoming my new friends and family. Thank you for motivating me to get off my butt and get work done so that I can fulfill my dreams. Thank you for helping me pick out outfits, telling me how to do my hair, and reassuring me that my eyeliner is even. Thank you for being there no matter what. Whether it’s to tell a story that only I think is funny, to listen to my boy problems, to listen to me ramble on about pointless things, or even just to sit and complain about anything and everything, I can always count on you to listen and be my voice of reason.

I hope that each and every one of us finds the success that we are all striving for. I hope that we can all achieve our dreams and continue to encourage each other to do the same. I hope that through the next four years our memories only grow fonder and our hearts only grow fuller. I hope that twenty years from now we can still count on each other any time we need advice, a good laugh, or just someone to talk to.

But for now here’s to us. Here’s to the late nights that we’ll stay up studying and the hours of getting ready to only go out for ten minutes. Here’s to the tears and the stress that is bound to come our way. Here’s to our futures. Here’s to our growth over the next four years and the friendships that will last a life time. Here’s to the inside jokes and the thousands of photo ops, to the snacks we fight over and the boys we cry over. Here’s to you guys. Here’s to the friendships and memories that we’ve made in such a short amount of time.

To put it simply, you guys rock.

Xoxo,

Your new college friend

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
