An Open Letter To My Extended Family

An Open Letter To My Extended Family

To the family that adopts me as their own:

Thank you. Thank you for accepting me as member of your family. My heart feels completely dissatisfied with the few gratitude's I have given over the years. Its incredible how people that have no genetic loop with you, can become much more than some of your own immediate family. Many times we think our immediate family is all we have as support system, and that's when we start realizing we are wrong. Ive known you guys for years and every year that goes by the bond between us gets stronger and stronger. What you guys think is a simple gesture, for me it's a blessing. From not letting me feel alone when my mom is not in town, to making me feel like a big sister, to much more. It's all those little details that make it so special.

Thank you. Thank you for encouraging me every day to do better and better. For giving me advice from time to time. Because when you see that I start stepping off the tracks, next to my mom, you guys give me the extra push I need to figure it out. Like the numerous times you remind me that school comes first and the fun comes later. The significant times you guys remind me how hard I have to work to get to where I want. Also, reminding me several times that I will always have a special place in your hearts.

Thank you. Thank you for always having my back. Because when I've spent most of my hours in your house, you still invite me to places without asking for anything in return. For making a trip to Costco, like an adventure. For converting moments into memories. Because when I decided to study in the US, you guys always supported me and made my last days at home, the best days. For always keeping in touch even though we were miles away. For always finding the right words to say when I need them.

Thank you. Thank you for believing and trusting me. For trusting me enough to take part of the sacred space that divides family with friends and acquaintances. Trusting me enough to spend lots of time with me. Believing in me enough to encourage my decisions. Simply, thank you. For always looking out for me and my mom. If I live by one thing is that “We don't meet people by accident, they are meant to cross our paths for a reason.” So thank you. Thank you for crossing my path and always being there for me no matter what.

With lots of love and appreciation,

-Someone very blessed to have you in her life.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
