An Open Letter To My Mother
Courtney Paige Keene

Dear Mom,

First of all, I want to say thank you. Thank you for never giving up on me throughout the past 19 almost 20 years. Thank you for always having my back through thick and thin, and for always being my shoulder to lean on. Without you, I would be nothing. You have molded me into the woman I am today. You have helped guide me the right way, whenever I stir left, you put me right back on the path to success. I have watched you overcome many obstacles throughout your life, especially lately, and somehow every time you come out stronger. That inspires me to always fight, no matter what life throws at me, I will fight to come out stronger.

Whenever I get older, I have no question about the woman I want to be. I want to be like you. Strong, courageous, kind hearted, soft, and hardworking. I can only hope that one day I am half the mother, wife, and role model that you are.

Thank you mom. Thank you for always believing in me and for getting me to where I am today. I do not know where I would be without you.

And to all the other mothers molding your children to be strong and independent, thank you. If your children do not say it enough, I will for them. You only get one mother in life, and I will never take that for granted. So thank you, to all mothers in the world, for giving us the world.

Love always,

Courtney

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
