An open letter to my mother after this election.

First of all, thank you. Thank you for being a strong woman. Thank you for showing me what kindness and compassion looks like towards everyone. Thank you for being an example of a model citizen. Thank you for teaching me to vote. And teaching me that no matter what happens my vote matters.

Dear mom, thank you for making me your first concern in this election. Thank you for asking your best friend “What are we going to say to our daughters?” Thank you for letting me scream at you for an hour on the phone. Thank you for shedding tears for me and the future of this country. Thank you for giving me hope and reminding me that one person can't reverse all we've done. Thank you for reminding me that the next four years are going to be tough, but women, Muslims, LGBTQ+, immigrants, African Americans, latina/os, and minorities will not lose all of their rights.

Thank you for telling me the truth. And though this isn't what we wanted or what we believed was best for our country we cannot give up. We as women have to keep fighting for our reproductive rights. We have to keep educating ourselves. We can't give up, we have to keep fighting for whats right and whats best for the disadvantaged members of our society.

Thank you for telling me that the next four years are a time for us to join together hand and hand. Thank you for telling me that as a woman I can do anything I put my mind to. Thank you for reading Hillary Clinton quotes and scripture. Thank you for having enough concern for me to take time out of your day to listen. Thank you for staying up last night and thinking about me the whole time you did so.

Thank you for always putting me first whether it be in politics, or in regular life. Thank you for being an inspiration and a role model of a democratic, kind, loving, and fair women.

Dear democratic women reading this,

Do not loose hope. Though it may seem like were in a hopeless situation. Though it may seem like were going to lose rights that we've fought for. That planned parenthood will be defunded and Roe vs. Wade overturned, do not loose hope. Use the time from now until January as a time to mobilize and unite in order to defend what we believe in important and worthy in our society. One person cannot destroy what we've fought for. And always remember, you can be anyone or anything you set your mind to. In the words of Hillary herself, “You are valuable, powerful, and deserving of every change and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams.”

Dear Clinton supporters, both men, and women,

Remember that this situation is temporary. This will only last four years. There is always a chance to make more change. To the democrats, do not forget all the work we put into this campaign. Do not forget all the diversity and culture we have as a political party. Always remember that, as Hillary said “Our campaign was never about oner\ person or even one election. it was about the country we love, and about building an America that's hopeful, inclusive, and big-hearted.” and that “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead…”

And lastly to Americans as a whole.

Do not forget what we stand for. Do not forget that we stand for justice, fairness, and equality for all. Freedom of religion, speech, and press. Remember that we are fighting to build a better and stronger America. Remember that “The American dream is big enough for all people,” and as Clinton so eloquently said, “Please, never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it.” Remember to respect all people despite their religion, sexual orientation, or color of their skin. Remember that you do not get anywhere by putting someone else down. You will never gain anything in life by hurting others. And no matter what happens in the next four years, remember that Love ALWAYS Trumps hate.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
