An Open Letter To My Loyal iPhone

Dear iPhone, you double-edged sword.

It wasn't until the summer before my first year of college that I replaced my flip phone with you, oh-so magical iPhone. I was hesitant to start my journey with you, but I now know that my reservations were valid.

While, at first, I didn't interact with you much, the time has come when I check my text messages and notifications nearly every few minutes. It's not a problem, you say? Well, it certainly has become one for me. I enjoy my privacy. And I cherish my value even more. Although I am frustrated with you at the moment, you made some positive impacts on my life.

We cannot forget the countless times you gave me a way to contact my lifeline when I was distraught over boys or needed encouragement to make tough decisions.

We cannot forget that you helped me tremendously with contacting my Odyssey writers and looking up random facts for my homework.

And we certainly cannot forget that you helped me get up in the morning when I had those 8 AM classes. Without you, I may have already been kicked out of school.

But I'm here to tell you that I need a break. No--I don't want to disown you completely. That is not the case at all. I just need some of my personal space back. It's a fair proposition, I believe. We can both benefit from this, actually. Me, I get my privacy. And you, you get extra time to sleep and recharge. It's a win-win situation, really.

Now that we've gotten my issues out of the way, let's remember that you probably are just as annoyed as I am. I constantly enter my password incorrectly, religiously check to see if people have texted me, and never stop nagging you for directions.

With all of that said, please don't wake me up tomorrow morning.

Love you always (or, most of the time)

Jerry

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
