An Open Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

Though miles are long between us, we are never far apart.

An Open Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

Just about three years ago I was lucky enough to become friends with the most caring, loving, funny, generous, and selfless person. Over time, she has become more than a friend She has become my best friend and in most aspects, a part of my family.

Even though she is just about 800 miles away from me most of the time, I know no matter what she is always there for me and I know that she knows the same goes for her. I literally can count on her for anything. Something so minor as not knowing how to do my hair or makeup. Sometimes not knowing what shoes to wear or what sweater. Even something so serious as me crying and I just need her to talk me through it. Those 800 miles never get in the way of anything.

There any many things I would like to thank her for but there are just so many things you do for me that the list can go on and on.

Always being a phone call away

No matter what time it is, where you are, what you’re doing, or who you’re with, if I call, text, or Facetime you I know that I will get an answer in just about a minute. Thank you for the texts every day to tell me how much you miss me and love me, and the never-ending facetime calls, I love you.

For always being honest with me

You literally get a play by play of my day so you know all the drama, all the little details, and every move I made. Thank you for always being non-biased of the issue I have come across and always telling me if I was wrong. Although you aren’t here you are always the person that gives me the best advice. Also, thanks for always giving me the best advice and knowing what’s in my best interest. I know that since you’re not always here you just want to see me happy.

Never getting sick of me

You would think since we talk pretty much 24/7 you’d get sick of me, my attitude, my jokes, my hyper-ness, my laughing or my mood swings. NOPE. Thanks for always dealing with me. Sometimes you deal with me more than my friend’s at home do.

Always reminding me that you're always standing right behind me

Sometimes when I’m feeling down and I feel like the world is too much to handle, thank you for the never ending paragraphs reminding me how much you love me and how you’re always going to be here for me. Thank you for standing behind me in the worst times and the happiest times. You’re the best.

For making every time I see you special

No matter what it is, you always make your visits special and make me the most excited to see you. Thank you for the countdown, the surprises, the ice-cream dates, the movie dates, the music dates, the concert dates, the sleepovers, the hours of gossip, the tips on nail polish, holding me when I’m crying, making me laugh when I’m sad, the never ending jokes, but most importantly making each visit the very best.

Thank you for being the best human. I love you most.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
