Lincoln High School’s Class of 2016,

It has only been about five months since graduation but I miss us all together already. I have met some of the closest people in my life from this class of students. I wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

I can never thank you all enough for sharing as what people call it “the best four years of my life” with me. First day of freshmen year, we had an assembly that discussed one of our own leaving us too soon. Even with all the tears shed, we formed tight as a unified group. Yes, we had cliques like every high school does, but at LHS it was a little different. No one let their clique or close group of friends define them, you could like or hang out with whoever you wanted to.

Looking back at the pictures and the videos, it’s crazy realizing how fast it all went by. It felt like just yesterday that we were at CCRI dressed in all black and white for our first spirit week. Little did we know the next time we were in that gym, would be three and a half years later for graduation rehearsal three and a half years later.

Spirit weeks were always amazing with our class rooting each other on. We always seemed to be encouraging one another to dress up, bring in cans, and participate in battle of the classes. The banana song made football games so much more fun and everyone always ended up at Chili’s, just like after every school event.

I cannot forget the 50th Variety Show! This show was definitely, “Good as Gold.” Variety Show is full of seniors since it is their last year. Bonds were made with juniors, sophomores, and freshmen while they are taken under our wing to show them the ropes of the show. I know VShow alumni will be back to watch future shows to see if it can uphold the standards set in.

Now I know why people say cherish the time spent together. We have all moved on from high school, but it’s always a joy to reunite and I can’t wait for our reunions.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
