An Open Letter To My Good Friends

You truly light up my world.

Dear Friend,

Don’t get me wrong, significant others can be great, family is irreplaceable, and dogs are absolutely amazing, but there is nothing quite like you. You’re not the type of friend who just uses me to help you with homework or buy you alcohol. You’re the type of friend who can go out or just as easily stay in. You can talk for hours on end, but can easily listen when needed. You never judge, but don’t hesitate to tell me when I’m out of line. You never mind cuddling and watching Netflix or getting ice cream late at night. I may not have known you for a long time but I feel as if I’ve known you forever. We are able to make it work, even though we cannot always see each other as often as we would like. You are genuine in every way, shape, and form. And I am truly sorry that I do not tell you that enough. There is nothing compared to the power of a good friend; there is nothing quite like having a friend like you.

Words cannot truly express how thankful I am for you and how much I love you. Your friendship means the absolute world to me. No matter if I’m breaking down crying or have some great news to share, you’re always there for me. For the ups and the downs and everything in between, you are in it for the long run, and I know I can always count on you. I know it can’t be easy, but you still do it time after time. Life can get really rough but with you in it, I am certain that everything will be okay.

More often than not, I’m completely stressed, busy out of my mind, and not thinking straight. You know, those days when nothing seems to be going right and our self confidence is at an all time low. You are the type of person who, if given the chance, can turn my frown upside down in a matter of minutes. You know exactly when I need a pick-me-up, and you know exactly what to say or do to make things better. I am so thankful I have you during these times, and every other time in between.

You are the type of person I see in my life for a long time. I hope you know that you mean a lot to me and that I will fight hard to keep it that way. Please know that everything you do for me, I will do for you and more. You light up my world and everyone else’s you come in contact with. Thank you for simply being you.

Love always,

Your friend who loves you

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
