Dear Future Self,

You didn't always have it all figured out, and you probably still don't, but here's what I hope for you. I hope you're happy most of all. I hope you're chasing your dreams. I hope you're in love. I hope your relationships with your family are strong. I hope you're bettering yourself for your future children or your already children. I hope you've reached your job goals or are working on it. I hope you have good friends and strong supports. I've always known how strong willed you are (not always for the good), so I know you're doing just fine.

Future Self, I've hoped you've learned as much as you could've possibly learned in your years. I hope you've found the strength to get out of bed every day and do something worthwhile. I hope life has never been too hard, and I hope you've always kept your chin up. Even when it seems like nothing can go right for you, God is protecting you and doing everything in his good will.

I hope you're thinking about or already have a family. I know that's always been one of your main goals in life. I hope you're being or preparing to be the best mother you can be. I hope you're patient. I hope you're loving. I hope you're understanding. Even in the hardest of times. I hope you and your husband see eye to eye. You've been working so hard for this, so keep working.

I hope you've reached your education and career goals. I hope you're happily teaching or going to school to further your education. I know you haven't always had it figured out as far as what you're doing in life, but I hope you've found contentment or you're still trying to figure it out. Don't ever settle if you're not happy. I've always known everything is going to work out in good time. No one can judge you for what you're doing now, because it is not the end.

I hope you've made good choices. I hope you never gave up on being an outstanding person. Stay true to yourself always. Seek the most noble choice, and do it, no matter how hard. Never settle for something less than what you're worth. You have the power to decide what you're worth. Never stop seeking God. Never stop being kind to His people.

Finally, I hope you've figured out who is worth it in your life. Sure everyone is worth something. But I hope you've decided on who is closest to you. I hope you've realized how much your family cares about you. I hope you've picked a good partner. I hope you've picked good friends. I hope you don't struggle with knowing the character of the people closest to you. I hope you always have someone to talk to and you never feel lonely. I hope you know that you're your best support.

Work hard. Never stop bettering yourself.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
