Dear Students,
Now, this may seem a little premature and maybe silly, but there are a few things I want you, as my future students, to know before we share a classroom together.
Ever since I was a little girl, there was a small part of me that knew I would become an elementary teacher someday, somewhere. Maybe it was all of the time I spent in the classrooms my mom substituted for or the wonderful teachers in my family. Perhaps, it was Mrs. McGee, my favorite elementary teacher who had a way of regularly burning popcorn and never wore the same colored socks. Ultimately, I like to think it is a combination of the people I have had in my life who have brought me to follow the career path I care for so deeply.
I can't wait to meet each and every one of you. You may not know it, and I imagine it may be hard to believe right now, but you mean the world to me. Being your teacher is something I have dreamed about and have been waiting for for so long now. The first classroom I have and each of you are are so very important to me. So thank you in advance. Thank you for being my students, and thank you for making my dreams a reality.
You may find yourself struggling to determine who is more mature – me or your peers. (It will probably be your peers.) You may plainly be mystified by the notion that someone has allowed me, one of the goofiest ladies you will meet, be responsible for a classroom. You may be exhausted by the amount of jokes I crack on a weekly basis. I’ll think I’m funny, and I know you probably won’t. The thing is, I do not believe in a day that goes by without a smile or a laugh, and I will make sure that will never happen in our classroom.
While there only are a few short years separating now and the time me finally meet, there is a lot more for me to learn before I am your teacher. One full year of school and a few years in grad school. I may try to teach English as a second language somewhere, but I promise I’ll come back. I want you to know I am trying. I am trying my best in school and in my experiences in the field to learn how to be the best teacher I can.
A few promises. I promise you will learn. I promise I will never let you forget how important you are. I promise you will feel welcome when you enter our classroom. I promise to teach you the best way I know how. I promise you will be heard. I promise you will be safe. I promise you will be loved.
Fondly,
Ms. Brown
