First and foremost, I am sorry America. I am sorry that you have seen great things in the past 100 years and I feel like we are back at the drawing board all over again. On Election Day, many people, most notably women, were putting their 'I Voted' stickers on Susan B. Anthony's gravestone. For those of you that don't know, Susan B. Anthony was a trailblazer for women's suffrage and passed away in 1909 before women received the write to vote. Future President-elect Trump has made his thoughts on women well known, and I will revisit this topic later.
To the LGBT Community, my heart goes out to all of you. I envy your courage and determination, because you are constantly fighting for what you believe in. You are forced to constantly prove yourselves in a world where such hatred for your community exists and it makes me very upset. Hillary believed in you, as do I, and America seemed to stab you all in the back yesterday. I can only hope and pray that one day you all are recognized as an important piece in society, rather than
To all other minorities in America, I am also very sorry. It makes me so upset knowing the number of people who voted for Donald Trump because of his promise to “build a wall!” We have five freedoms in this country, and religion happens to be one of them. We all look up to one higher power whether that be God, Allah, or anyone else. As long as we are being respectful and mindful of other religions, I cannot begin to understand where the hate comes from.
As a woman, there really is no clear definition of emotion that I am feeling today. I feel like I am mourning the loss of someone very important in my life. I was already fearful for my future, knowing that May 13, 2017 is approaching faster than I would like it to, no matter if I am ready for the real world or not. I am even more fearful knowing that Donald Trump believes that my place is in the home and not in the workforce.
I refuse to accept the results of his values. I am not just a woman; In the sense that I give into sexual desires as needed, bear children to please my husband, raise the children on my own while my husband works to provide for our family, and be confined to my home for the rest of my life. I AM MORE. I deserve the right to be college educated. I am entitled to the same pay that men receive, and to go through every milestone in life that they get to do without question. I am not just an object of affection.
So here’s to you, President Trump, for proving to us what exactly is wrong with America these days. Money buys you power.
Racism.
Hate.
Fear.
Sexism.
Prejudice.
Homophobia.
These all won you the 2016 Presidential Election and put fear in to the hearts of many Americans. I truly wish you well with your Presidency, and pray to my highest power that you prove us all wrong. I hope you truly are not who you have depicted yourself as in the past 18 months. You have promised to make America great again and I really hope you follow through with that.
I promise to stay true to myself, and with that comes refusing to sink in a world of hatred towards everyone who is not a white male. We all will unite for a better future, even if you do not believe we deserve that right.
