This is a world where individuals learn life lessons, body movement, and how to take in perception; individuals learn these three traits/qualities through their life, because of the environment they have adapted to and grew up in. Some people don’t want to believe that they adapted some qualities of life and traits of their own from family, friends, and the place they know as home. I write this to acknowledge the people who I am grateful for, I’m sure I don’t say it or show it, but I truly do care.

Dear Family,

Let me explain to you how much you really mean to me. I know this might sound cliché and it is very basic to express about, but sometimes you have to be your weird self in front of the world.

Let’s start with that I know I can be the biggest pain, but I mean it out of love because I know that we all have such a bond that only our family can understand. Plus, with the things we say, we know that there’s lines that shouldn’t be crossed and where we stand after especially with the apologetic acts we show.

You guys may not know that we understand everything you do is to protect us and teach us about life, but we do understand we just hear so often it stresses us out. I can’t speak for my siblings or my cousins, but I appreciate all the scary adult talk you guys bring up; I know I show annoyance when the topic appears in family events, but I only get so annoyed because I’ve already learned so much from you guys that I want to start learning on my own. I love the good intentions about what you guys think and want for, but no matter what I know, I will be fine because I will always have my family beside me even if I make mistakes. Another important thing I appreciate is the life lessons you have taught me. You guys have shown me that no matter who I am I should embrace it; you guys are the reason I’m so well-put, mature, and hard-working. You don’t think I listen to your life lessons and weird stories, but I do and I really follow by them because I was told about these lessons to be taught what to do.

I go through life every day thinking about everything you guys have done for me and I’m so grateful. As my family, it’s your job to love me unconditionally, and it doesn’t mean you have to give me the world but you guys do. All the things you guys do for me is something I hope one day I can give back to all of you. I see all the effort, time, and hard-work you guys put in to this family and I love it because it really shows that we are a strong family. I look up to you guys because in your weakest days you still stand strong and show us that life is tough, but no matter what you need to overcome all your obstacles. The amount of effort I see in you guys makes me want to work even harder and show the world I’m ready for it. I see all the life decisions you guys have made and that you did it for us to be the best we can. If it wasn’t for you guys, I wouldn’t have been so determined to get my first job, my high school diploma, and get my license. I notice that you guys make decisions that you don’t want us to make so we can have a better life, which makes me feel special to have such a wonderful family like you guys. You guys are my inspirations in life to continue and grow up strong minded.

Lastly, I would like to say I love you guys. I don’t say it a lot or show it, but I deeply do love you guys. Growing up without you guys there more than half the time will be scary, but I know if I need you guys you’ll be here to listen and help me out. I want to thank you guys for helping me strive and be a better person, if it wasn’t for the constant nagging I wouldn’t be who I am today.

P.S to my family in Ohio, I'm sorry I didn't have a group picture with you lovelies.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
