An Open Letter To My Dogs: Thank You For Always Being There
Danielle Samer

Dear dogs,

It is because of you that so many of us live our lives to the fullest. It is because of you that we endure adventure, have laughter and happiness in our lives, perspective, connection, teaching us valuable lessons, most of all, thank you for being there for us.

About a month ago my family and I went through a terrible tragedy, we lost our entire home in a house fire. The only reason that my family and I got out unharmed was because of my eldest dog Kate, she saved our lives.

I wish I could explain to you how much I appreciate having you in my life, how grateful I am that you became a part of our family 12 years ago. If I could sit down and have one conversation with you I would tell you...

Thank you for all the adventures

Growing up having you as a dog has been full of fun times and many fun adventures. From simple walks around the neighborhood, to long car rides to West Virginia, they all have been made to the fullest because you were by my side.

Thank you for laughter

Because of you, there is not a day that goes by that I do not have laugher. Even on those nights that I sit in bed, sad and overthinking, you always manage to put a smile onto my face. From playing "tag" in the backyard, to you chasing your tail in the living room, you brighten the mood every day.

Thank you for perspective

Growing up, a lot of things in my life have had to been takin more seriously. Work and school have become a major part of my life right now. But, with you by mysids each night that I sit in bed doing homework, or writing up a college paper, you show me that there is more to life then just work and school. From sitting outside by the pool, to getting out and sitting in the front yard while mom plants flowers you remind to enjoy these moments, as they won't last forever.

Thank you for connection

As I suffer from depression and anxiety I find it very easy to lock myself in my room and hide from the reality of life. But, because of you, you made it easier for me to come out of the dark room and enjoy life a little better, to make that connection with those around me. You showed me that making friends is a lot easier then I ever imagined.

Thank you for teaching me such valuable lessons

I have gone through many, many years of school and I have come across many teachers who have taught me many valuable lessons, but know one has taught me anything near the lessons you have taught me. You have taught me the meaning of trust, faith and true love. Because of you I know there is someone out there for me, you have taught me that I need to be patient and that love that you and I share as a family will soon be found with someone else.

Thank you for being there

From the moment that we brought you home I have had a lot of moments, from happy, to sad, to angry, and you have been there every step of the way. From every hello to goodbye, from every laugh to every tear, you are constantly there with me every step of the way and it is because of you that I get through each and everyone of those moments.

I forever will wish that you could be with me for the rest of my life, that you and I can grow together and you can be there with me every step of the way. But, I know one day our friendship and bond will have to come to an end. I am grateful I still have you with me and that we continue growing together. I wish so much that I could share this letter with you and thank you for everything you have done for me.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
