An Open Letter To My Campus

Why Trump had no right to hold a private event at my school.

To the community of Saint Anselm College,

This letter is to address my disappointment of your allowance to let Donald Trump hold a private event at Saint Anselm at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics on the date of June 13th 2016.

As many of my friends and family know I fondly love this school and could not imagine going to another school. One of the main missions of this school in so many words like other colleges is to provide an education through benedictine values to foster growth, and career preparation. One of the main parts of the mission of my school being Benedictine is to encourage the lifelong pursuit of the truth and foster[ing] intellectual, moral and spiritual growth.

What is ironic about this is that I don't think Donald Trump is a truth teller, a moral person or a spiritual person. While I recognize that many politicians aren't these things either I cannot come to understand why you let this sexist, racist bigot come to my campus.

I am not completely leftist I may add because I do agree with the general stance on the way Republicans like to handle foreign affairs, along with the right to own guns. I'm not not as extreme as they are with other things. I for one thought it was somewhat cool that one year Mitt Romney was the commencement speaker

While I would be somewhat okay with him holding a public event, because it would encourage the students to form their own opinions, which is included in the mission statement, (because it wouldn't be fair just to allow Democratic candidates to campus) I am not okay with him holding a private event. This is my opinion goes against the values of our school. While I understand that many students were in summer recess its the thought of holding a privite event that gets me mad.

How I am or anyone for that matter supposed to form an opinion about someone if they are doing something from behind closed doors. I also find it highly ironic that he failed to show up to the Republican Debate we had on my campus but showed up to every other "Private" event such as the Politics and Eggs that is held somewhat frequently with only a small amount of students being allowed to attend.

Someone who attends my school claims that the only reason he was allowed to do this is because he supposedly donated money to the school. But in all context what college kid do you think would want to stay in a dorm associated, or named after Donald Trump? I for one would not. In fact most of my friends don't even view him in a positive light. Most of them say he is a great businessman (which I also agree with) but, lacks the morals, empathy and many other things in order to become president. I would not want him getting the nuclear codes with the history he has of making rash decisions based off his feelings.

It shouldn't matter in the end if you are a democrat or a republican who comes to Saint A's but the ideas and values you send to the young adults who go there. For me however, Donald Trump should have been allowed to hold a public event but not a provte event because in the end who did it benifit.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
