To my books,
Every morning, I walk by you knowing that when I get home from school there is a high probability of me reading that night. The choices are endless, and deciding on what to pick is a real quandary. There’s always fantasy to take me to a whole other world and place me in the realm of dragons or magical forests or quests. Contemporaries offer a solid story of love and life and the characters are always sweet and enjoyable. But I’m writing you this letter to tell you how grateful I am to have books and the privilege to read in my life.
Thank you for showing me that I can step out of my own hectic world even for a small moment and open myself to the worlds and people of Sarah Dessen, J.K. Rowling and Jodi Picoult. Thank you for giving me the magic of Sarah J. Maas, the thrill of James Patterson, and even the despair of Jay Asher. These authors and their respective stories have opened up a window for me to observe and receive the interactions of human relationships. Even Charlotte Bronte and Leo Tolstoy have portrayed their most significant human interactions through classical depictions.
The many characters and stories you’ve given me have broadened my perspective on the world. Each character's emotions I can connect and compare with my own. Each story's plot line I can replay over and over again in my head until I see it perfectly in my imagination. Thank you for the gift of reading and its’ many worlds that I would have never thought existed. Turning each crisp page and reading every ink printed word fills the empty space echoing throughout my room at night when no one else is around.
And every time I finish a book I always know that there is a new book to begin; a new story to explore. One that may take me to a space station or under the sea. You’ve been there for me when no one else has and you’ve helped me forget the hard times and create new ones worth embracing. Though stories end and books can grow dusty and old, the lessons I’ve learned from fictional people and their homes will always be in my heart. Thank you.
Sincerely, Me, an avid book reader.
