An Open Letter To My Biological Best Friend

Little brother,

You always hear about siblings not getting along. There's constant arguing, constant fighting. It never ends. Siblings aren't always close. Some don't talk. Some hardly talk. Some siblings couldn't care less about each other.

But that's not us.

We're as close as can be. Sure, we fight, but it's never about anything serious. We talk everyday.

You're my absolute best friend.

I couldn't imagine life without our constant bickering and joking around. I love hanging out in your room until 5 AM while you're playing video games. I love running around stores and acting like we're five years old. I love having someone to talk to about anything and everything. All in all, I love having you as a brother.

It's weird being at college, so far away from you. I've never been away from you for more than a week. It's extremely difficult. I don't have my little cuddle buddy whenever I need you. I don't have my best friend.

I know I had promised we would talk every night. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to keep that promise. Life is different now. Things are changing and I'm having a very hard time adjusting. But that's also why I need you. All throughout my life, you've never left my side. I know that technically, you really don't have a choice. But you go above and beyond. You always know how to make a frown into a smile. You never fail to make me laugh. You've never let me down. I can never thank you enough for that.

I wish I could be there with you right now. You're in a new place and you're meeting all these new people and discovering this whole new life. Just like I am. I want to help you through it. I want to be there to hold your hand and guide you when you need help. I want you to know I'll always be here to support you, no matter when and no matter how far I am.

You're going to turn into an amazing man one day. I can't wait to be there to see that. To see you graduate, to see you get married, to see you live. I want to be there for it all. I want you to have the best that the world can offer you.

I can't wait to see you again. I'm going to give you the biggest hug, and I'm never going to want to let go. I miss you. I love you. Thank you for being my best friend.
