An Open Letter To My Best Friend And Sister

Dear bestie and sister all-wrapped-into-one,

That is quite the title! Yes, you are honored with being my #1 friend and my blood relative all-in-one. How lucky for you! You may not have asked for this title or to be my sister, but sadly we can't pick our family. The day mom found out she was gonna have me was the best day of your life! Right?! That was when the life as you knew it was going to change dramatically. You really had no idea how much...because yes, I am pretty dramatic! The spotlight always has to be on me, but you are alright with that. (Thanks for accepting that!)

Side note: I happened to think of the time we would walk home from the bus stop. I was a little tike and had a small backpack with nothing in it, but to me it was the heaviest thing. You were always wanting to go home and walk fast, but of course my attention span was that of a two-year-old. I also happened to think that it was the longest walk ever. You ended up carrying my backpack and yours home, stopping to wait for me to catch up. Doddling Sara would finally make it home and you would dread the next walk home with me. Thanks for never leaving me behind and always dealing with my dramatic self. Anyway...let's continue on!

This contraption would've been helpful for me. A leash!

From day one, you were by my side; mother-hen you were to me. Apparently we were glued to each other! All of the pictures do say so! How could you not love me when I was a cute, chubby baby? Okay enough with all of the attention all on me. Here's why I am writing this letter to you:

No one gets me as much as you do! You are someone I can tell anything to, knowing you won't narc on me and that you will give me the best advice. You are someone who I can go to with all of my problems, sadly, there are more than I would like to admit. Thankfully, you are always there with a listening ear and a loving heart. Even if my problems are me being out of line, you won't hold back. You will tell me the truth with no reservations. Thank you for your honesty.

You were not always happy with me trying to be just like you when I was little! The matching clothes and the grimace on your face, I could tell you just enjoyed the heck out of it. There was little Sara sitting by your side with the biggest grin on her face, because she got to look just like her big sister. You also had the annoying sister that hung out with your friends when they came over. Mom told you to be nice, but you couldn't help not wanting me to be there. The truth is, you were and always have been my biggest role model! You have managed to accomplish life so well, I can only hope that I can do it so gracefully. You have always had so many successes and I am so proud of you for it! You are my role model and I would hope to become half of the woman you are someday! The passion that drives out of you and your willingness to help others is inspiring. (Yeah people, my sister is pretty amazing!)

I can be true self around you! It may not always be pleasant, but you are understanding that I am not perfect. I can laugh uncontrollably with you/make the weirdest possible noises and your okay with it. I can dance, which you know isn't a pretty sight, and you will just shake your head. I can murder songs in the car and you just join along with me (or tell me to shove it).

This is the extent of my normal dance moves! Guys...it's that bad. (Side note- most of the bad dancing gifs were of Taylor Swift...awkward!)

You've just started to give me clothes over the years instead of me stealing them. Thanks for the new wardrobe! Your shopping addiction is fine with me when I reap from the benefits! This also just solidifies the fact that we both have the same taste! Even better!

I am blessed with my #1 supporter and comforter. Thank you for loving me no matter what. You are there during the good times and through the bad times. You always know what to say and what to do to make me feel better. Crappy day? A phone call can fix that instantly. A hug will melt all of your troubles away. A silly face will instantly crack me into a smile.

Ultimately, thank you for being my partner in crime for life! We may joke about the days that we will be 80 year-old ladies on our daily walk wearing matching jumpsuits. (How about this time you don't have to carry my backpack!) We will be senile, but completely adorable. You are my best friend and I can count on you to be in my life forever! No argument will drive us away, I promise, no matter how stubborn I am I will realize I'm the one at fault. I love our relationship with each other and I love that we always have a piece of each other's hearts. We will be able to grow old together, see each other fall in love, get married, have families of our own, and to just be a part of each other's lives.

I already have these ordered and on the way! Get excited!

You are my best friend and sister twisted into one amazing human being. I don't know how you do it, but you do it so well! Thank you for everything! I can't even begin to be the person you are, because you are such a wonderful, loving older sister.

I love you Amanda Kay!

If you happen to have an older sister or sibling, thank them for being there for you. Even if you may not have the greatest relationship with them, thank them for being a part of your life. You never know when it will be the last time you say "I love you". Okay, I'm done being sappy!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
