An Open Letter To Loud People in Libraries

Libraries are not your play ground. You need to respect the library as a space where everyone can freely do their work in peace.

An Open Letter To Loud People in Libraries

A public library has, and will, always be a place where people can go to do their work in a peaceful environment. Personally, I feel like a library is one of the few places I can go in order to think clearly and do my work. That is why I can not stand it when people think it's okay to start being loud. It gets so annoying and it turns into an itch that you just can't scratch. So, if you are the type of person who thinks it is okay to be loud in a library, then this open letter is for you. So without further adieu...

To the people who think it is okay to be loud in libraries:

It is not okay at all. In fact, it is just down right rude. Who do you think you are to ruin someone else's quiet place? Do you not realize that libraries are meant for research and work, not complaining about all of your problems over the phone to one of your friends? It is also not the place to blare loud music and run up and down the halls like a five year old. No one wants to hear your antics.

The situation is made worse when the library is on a college campus. Let's face the facts: college is just plain loud. Dormitories are loud, cafeterias are loud, and every hallway and stairwell is loud, too. That is why the library has to be quiet. If you want to be loud, then please take it literally anywhere else. There is no point in going into a college library if you intend to goof around like you do everywhere else.

You should also realize that some people hate loud environments and need an escape. Libraries have always served as such places, and you have no right to ruin that sanctity. Honestly, how would you feel if someone came into your favorite place and ruined it? I bet you would not like it, so please respect other people's favorite/safe spaces.

I hope you can learn to understand that being loud and obnoxious in a library is out of the question. It is nothing short of disrespectful to everyone else. So please consider others when you visit the library, whether it is at school or in public. Of course if you have to say anything, just whisper please. It will make all the difference. However, if you are still intent on going to the library with the purpose of being as loud as you want, then please do us all a service and never step into a library again. Libraries are professional places that demand the utmost respect from it's visitors. If you cannot learn to respect the library, then you do not deserve to be there.

P.S. And please don't leave garbage everywhere. It's disgusting and there are probably five trashcans within fifteen feet of you. Please be an adult and throw trash away. It only takes two seconds...
