An Open Letter To A Kind Stranger

Those 20 seconds changed my day.

Depression TO Happiness

To the kind soul who saved my laundry,

Thank you! Your effort does not go unappreciated. You made my day, and I greatly appreciate you and all you did. No act is too small. So, kind soul, please know that I am grateful to you.

Last week, one thing lead to another. I got distracted, and I left my wet clothes inside the washer over night. The next morning, I remembered where my clothes were because I was looking for a t-shirt I needed.

Annoyed and frustrated, I made my way to the laundry room in the basement. Now, I had to restart my whole load since it was probably stinky after spending the night crumpled and wet.

Expecting to find a pile of soaking, stinky clothes abandoned on top of a washer, I was pleasantly surprised to, instead, see my dry clothes set gently on top of the drier. The t-shirt I needed among this pile, dry and clean.

Those extra twenty seconds that took you to throw the wet clothes that sat in the washer you needed into an available dryer (instead of just leaving them wet on top of the washer) made my day. They saved me time, effort, and frustration, so thank you again.

Kind people like you are few and far between, which should not be the case. It should not be rare to see that someone took a moment out of their day to make your life just a little bit easier. Taking a moment or two to help a fellow human out is not that hard!

Whether you pick up a piece of paper as it tries to escape and chase down its unexpecting owner or wait ten seconds with the door open to help someone who is testing their carrying capacity get into the building, you are making a difference in those people's days.

Those little actions matter.

You just made another struggle disappear. You made their day that much easier, that much more bearable. And quite possibly, you made that last straw fall elsewhere.

So, fellow citizen, I urge you to continue down this path sprinkled with small acts of kindness. I ask you to continue brightening days by keeping their laundry from rotting, and in as many ways as you chose.

Kind stranger, thank you again!

Yours,

A forgetful laundry user

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
