An Open Letter To Jennifer Mayers

Let's start at the beginning.

I was on Facebook just like I always am when I stumbled upon a post unlike any other I've seen. It was a picture of Christy Sheats, the Texas woman who shot and killed her two daughters, followed by the headline "America's Martyr: NO Race Mixing." I had no idea what the title meant or what the blog post would be about, but I knew it probably wasn't going to be good. Little did I know that this one blog post would spark such a fire in me. There are a lot of bad things going on in the world, but this blog article is pretty high on the list.

For those of you who are unaware of this amazing blog, let me summarize for you. Jennifer Mayers is a Louisiana wife, mother, and "Christian" who believes that with God all things are possible. She's also a believer in the positivity of the Lord. And did I mention she's Guatemalan? And she's voting for Donald Trump? I mean this is all from her Twitter bio, and we're off to a great start.

In her blog post, Jennifer lets all of us know the truth about Christy Sheats. She wasn't a woman suffering from the loss of her grandfather and mother, or a woman who was mentally unstable, or a woman whose marriage was taking a hit. Ha, that's just what the media wants us to think! Christy Sheats was really just protecting herself, her family, the white race and God. From what you may be asking? The sin that is race mixing. Not only is it a sin, but it's humiliating. And "not only for the children born of this sin, but for the grandparents who would have to carry this burden." What would Mrs. Sheats do if she had to "explain to her friends why she was carrying around a yellow mixed baby that her promiscuous daughters had created?" I mean, I wouldn't know what I would do. It must be awful for someone to have to go through that.

Jennifer, let me make this as crystal clear as I possibly can. There's no such thing as "race mixing," because we're all one race. Is your brain exploding? What does this mean? Well, it means that everyone, no matter what the color of their skin is, is human. We are the human race. WOW. Crazy right? But that's not all! Everyone's DNA is all interconnected. Here's a link to a video showing people having their DNA tested. In this video, people who thought they knew who they were found out that they were actually from all over. Spoiler alert: two people in the group found out they were cousins! It's amazing to see how all of us fit into the world. I'd honestly be willing to bet you all the money I have in my bank that some of your DNA came from Africa. It's not much money, but I'd bet it. And if you don't like that logic, let's take it a little further. If God created Adam and Eve, and they were the first people on Earth, that would mean that we all came from the same ancestors. It doesn't matter what way you slice it, we are one. And that's nothing to be ashamed of.

After all of this, Jennifer received hundreds of thousands of views and clicks to her blog. She also received lots of negative comments. (I really have no idea why.) I couldn't find a single positive comment on her article! I was so shocked! She then posted another blog called "Public Outcry: Going Viral."

If you haven't had a chance to read this beautifully written piece, I'll summarize again. Jennifer wants all of us to know that she is shocked and outraged that people thought her first article was a joke or satire. She's a "Christian," for God's sake! She'd never joke about Christ! She's also not apologizing for what she wrote! Why would she? This is the truth people! "Miscegenation is wrong and it will destroy the white race as we know it. If everyone would stay with their own kind there would be no confused yellow babies not knowing which race they have to portray or “act” like in order to fit in. It just is not right." I honestly couldn't have said it better myself.

She also wants us all to know that she's not a bad person for sharing an opinion that the "majority of the world believes!" Finally, someone who can really express what we all really think! She's also "100 percent correct in [her] statements and beliefs." And if anyone feels any differently, well don't worry! Jennifer suggests "you educate yourself on race/religion!" This way you'll be able to see what almost everyone else sees! And she can't stress enough that "Mrs. Sheats was a martyr in the name of Christ and she was doing what she felt was right in her heart to save her daughters." Jennifer knows the pain of Christ and she knows his suffering. She knows y'all. We don't have any idea! Finally, Jennifer wants us all to know that she won't be broken from this hatred that she's been receiving. She's going to keep on! You go girl! Kitchen Jesus would be so proud of you!

Thanks you so much, Jennifer. You've shown me the light! I had no idea that my parents were so ungodly. And that I was causing so much humiliation and confusion to myself and my family. My whole life I've been so confused and not knowing which race to portray, but it's all clear now! I'm just a yellow baby who doesn't fit in.

And this is where I finally draw the line.

Jennifer, you are entitled to your opinion. You are entitled to write what you wrote. That's the freedom of press and the freedom of speech! However, you couldn't be more wrong about all of it. I honestly feel sorry for you. I will pray for you. I hope that one day you will see that we are all people and we were all made the way we are for a reason. I hope one day you see that being a mixed child isn't a sin. It isn't a burden. I am beautiful. I'm not confused in who I am. I know that I am a mix of races, but so is everyone else. You, me, everyone is mixed. I hope you find your peace. I hope that God's plan is for you to someday see the true light.

I forgive you for your words. We all make mistakes and we all say things that aren't true.

All my love,

Shan

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
