An Open Letter To High School Friends That Will Never Be More Than That

You made my high school experience a great one, but you won't be there after graduation.

Dear friends from high school,

You have been there for me, you know about my other friends and the drama that comes along, you know my personality, and you know how I feel about many topics. You don’t know me to the core. You may have known me for years, upon years, the whole way through my schooling. You didn’t know me like others know me, and I didn’t know you like others know you.

As friends, we can always have our memories. It is almost a grievance period. In the upcoming months, our contact will falter, we won’t know what’s going on in each others lives unless it is on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. It won’t be too sad, though. We all know this was bound to happen. No one made any efforts to stop the inevitable.

You're the kinds of friends everyone needs even though it's temporary. You can make a horrible day a great one just by not knowing and joking around like usual. You're a listening ear when I need to vent about my procrastination instead of me doing the work I'm procrastinating. You made it a good time, even if it wasn't a long time.

As a temporary friend, you guys were the best temporary friends I could ever ask for. You know how to make me laugh, you know what to say and exactly how to embarrass me. Our friendship may not have changed much from middle school, but sometimes that is exactly what I need. A friendship with no evolution. We both have grown older, but our friendship can still be just as young and immature as we once were. You made my time in school a great one and I can't wait to see what you have in store for your future.

Don’t mistake this letter for me saying you don’t matter. You definitely did. I loved the class periods where all we did was laugh or the times we saw each other out and about and Snapchatted the whole experience. You guys made school enjoyable for me. I looked forward to going to classes to see you, I was excited to tell you all of my weekend shenanigans, our memories are endless.

Graduating this spring will put an end to our friendship. It was a good time and you will be remembered. Never forget the times we have had. I hope I run into you at a grocery store after working a 9-5 in the upcoming years. You will all be missed even if it's just momentarily. I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. I hope you enjoy your own college experiences and on from there. I'll always root for you from the sidelines whether you know or not. I'll always be here for you to come back to.

Sincerely,

A high school friend.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
