Dear Gilmore Girls,
I would just like to thank you for your upbeat and positivity of family life. All across my timelines of social media on Friday I saw women of families from all over the country coming together to watch Gilmore Girls: A Year in a Life. You have taught me so much of what it means to be a woman and provided me an escape from whatever family drama happening in my life.
I was a junior is high school when I first started watching this show, I had seen some reruns on television before but that was mostly it. I had no idea what to expect from the small town of Stars Hollow. All the characters made me feel as if this wacky town was my home too.
The relationship between Rory and Lorelai has taught me what it means to be best friends with your mother and even your sister. You may love each other to death and you may eat every junk food imaginable together, but you will always fight. The fights you get in will always be brutal because it usually rises from whoever loves each other more. Their relationship seemed perfect at first, however, you learn it has faults too just like my own family.
Lorelai and Rory being the only two members in their family struck a cord with me, it showed that you do not need a father around to turn out “normal”. This show helped girls everywhere that you are just as normal having no relationship with your father as Rory Gilmore is.
These four episodes were special; because it was something my family could all do together at Thanksgiving time. After our traditional Black Friday shopping was over it felt nice to sit around the couch and just watch one of our favorite television shows. Now that my sister and I are grown up and our adults, Rory’s struggle to find her passion struck a cord with us as we too are trying to find our way through life.
If you have never watched Gilmore Girls, I suggest you do because the sentiment of this show has towards the true American Family is phenomenally done. I am happy we got the ending we deserved for the Gilmore Girls and I cannot wait to see what this show does for future generations of television.
Love,
Elizabeth
