An Open Letter To Future Generations

Ignorance may be bliss, but bliss only lasts for a while.

Dear Future Generations,

I know that you're probably reading this off of your new iPhone 17 Plus, but this isn't a letter telling you about the crazy technology of the past and how things used to be. This is a message about hope. I hope that you are imaginative, intelligent, and that you make the world a better place.

Right now, I am scared. I am scared that this world is going to fall apart. I'm afraid that it is falling apart as I write this letter. I want to know that when I leave this planet, I am leaving in it great hands. I want to know that I am leaving it in hands that will shape this world and create a better future where we are all equal. I want to leave this world in hands that recognize each other's differences and celebrate them. Choose to support, not ignore. Ignorance may be bliss, but bliss only lasts for a while.

I know that this is a lot to ask for and I know that there are bigger issues that each and every one of you face every day. However, make this your top priority. Do not give up on making each day better for everyone. In today's society, being different means walking through the world with a target on your back. Erase that target and welcome those unique people with open arms.

Parents, you have been through crazy times. Listen to your children and try to understand what they are going through as a youth during that time period. Try to understand that they don't want to be different, but that's how they were made and they cannot change that. Educate yourselves on the things that they are passionate about. Learn about what makes them scared because you should protect them, no matter what the monster may be.

Future generations, you are what we used to sing about. Live up to our expectations. In fact, exceed our expectations. I know that you can and every one else knows that you can do a better job in making this world a "utopia." Be the future that everyone wants to be.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
