Dear Customers,
I'm very curious if you get some sort of enjoyment by being rude to those who work in retail. It is my job to ask if you need help with anything. If I don't ask you, my manager is going to make me ask you, so you're going to get asked if you need help no matter what. Your job, on the other hand, is not to be rude to me or my fellow retail workers. A polite "no, thank you" is fine. There is no need to be stern or hostile.
When a retail worker tells you their store's coupon policy or their return policy, why do you yell and argue why the policies are unfair? I didn't create policy, so I don't understand why you're yelling at me. It's not my fault. I have no control of policy. The company created it. I simply work for the company and that's about it.
Another thing I don't set is prices. Please don't give me a look when I tell you that cardigan is $49.99. That was not my fault. I, unfortunately, don't know the answer to "why does it cost so much?" My job is to simply help you out by telling you the cost of items and checking out your items when you're ready to pay.
I never understand why you get mad at me for not having an item in stock, especially popular items. Popular items sell quickly, and I'm not in charge of how many of that item we get. I can gladly look up to see if another location has the item, but I can't "check the back" when I know the item is not there.
Speaking of the back, I'm not sure what you think the back looks like, but it doesn't look like what you're imagining. If I tell you everything is out, everything is out. Please don't tell me to "double check" when I'm fairly certain everything is out. Sometimes, I'll humor you and check anyway, but chances are, I'm not looking. I'm probably taking a minute to sit, checking my phone, or telling a fellow co-worker about our interaction. I'll come out in a few minutes letting you know we didn't have anything in the back (just as I thought).
Sincerely,
A curious retail worker
