Readers love you and should know.

An Open Letter To Authors

If you are a bookworm like me, you cringe whenever someone asks you what your favorite book is or who your favorite author. Picking a favorite is like picking a favorite child or a favorite song. You find something specific you love about each and they are all different. Each author has their own unique writing style, their own voice. So this one is for all authors, published, unpublished, up-coming or author of your own story.

First of all, thank you. Thank you for putting your heart into your work. For spending hours on end writing stories and chapters full of ideas and emotions. I, along with others who have tried writing a novel, realize that writing a book is no easy task. It's time-consuming, emotionally draining and just plain hard. Yet you do it. You did it. You took floating thoughts and ideas from your head and put them on paper, sharing your dreams with others. It is quite cool.

I also want to tell you how special you are. Not everyone can do what you do. At times it might seem thankless, at least in the beginning. After all, no one has read your book yet or at least if it's published, not many people. And it might take a while, but trust me, when you do get readers who really love your book, those people will become a part of you. They will love the characters as you have and keep them alive.

Let me tell you what your book did to and for me. It spoke to me. Something that you wrote struck a cord in me that I related to or was made aware of. It made me think of things I had never thought of before. Your characters became my friends. I got to go on new adventures, meet new people and "see" new places. Your hero/heroine made me want to be brave and go out of my comfort zone. Your love interest had me falling for a fictional character that still doesn't seem so fictional.

I was able to visit new lands, travel through time and battle evils of all kinds. I found a part of myself in your book(s). Things I didn't even know about myself I learned through reading the story you wrote. You've made me long for things that are only possible between the pages of a book.

I'm not complaining. In fact, I am commending you. You have created magic. A kind of magic I can't even begin to describe, except when I read your book, it reminds me a little bit of home. Not the location, but the feeling that home gives.

You wonderful human being, you. Don't ever get discouraged. Take heart and stay strong. On behalf of book lovers and readers alike, I want to tell you that you are magnificent and we really do appreciate you. Thank you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
