To whoever needs to know they are important,

I know exactly what you are going through. And while most people do have insecurities they are not the most confident in, there are some people whose insecurities that are different from that. These insecurities hold them back from doing things, from living their lives.

I know this because sometimes my insecurities get the best of me as well—more often than not if I am being honest. I know what it is like to feel ostracized around others even if you know you are around people who love you unconditionally.

I know what it is like to feel completely alone rather than just feeling lonely every once in a while. I know what it is like to never want to leave your room because you aren’t sure what will you set you off today.

I know what it is like to hear all of those inside jokes and other times shared between your closest friends that leave you out, causing you to feel sad and like an outsider looking in. I know exactly what it feels like to finally fess up and tell your friends about some of your insecurities and have them thrown back in your face in some way or form.

I know what is like to think people are always laughing at you, not with you. I know what is like to have your insecurities joked about and made light of despite how much it hurts you on the inside. I know how all of it feels. I know what it is like.

But I am here to give you a little solace. I am here to tell you everything will be okay and I am not saying that it will all be okay in one night. That isn’t how things work.

Things take time but once that time has passed—no matter how short or long of an amount of time it was—you’d feel better about your insecurities.

But always remember you are not alone in this. There are so many others there to help give you this solace as well. And to say I’m sorry.

I realize that saying sorry isn’t always the best of things but I am sorry. I’m sorry that you feel the way you do. I’m sorry that you think that you aren’t good enough. I’m sorry that you feel no one wants to be around you. I am so sorry that you feel as if people don’t like you.

I am here to tell you that you have it all wrong—that everything you’re feeling isn’t true. And I know that it will take time for you to truly realize this but when you do, it will be a truly aspiring moment.

You are a great person and everyone knows and thinks this about you. You just have to realize this. Everything about you is wonderful and kind. Nothing is wrong with you and you are loved and wanted by your closest friends and family. So from the movie The Help, here is something you should always remember about yourself and something you should say to yourself if you are feeling lost and insecure.

You are kind. You are smart. You are important. Remember that about yourself, because I already see all of it in you. So see it in yourself.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
