An Open Letter To Anyone Affected By Mass Shootings

You are not alone

My heart is heavy.

I can't even begin to put into words how broken my heart feels day after day thinking about all the innocent lives lost by all the recent mass shootings. You would think a person would be used to this sort of pain when it happens so frequent.

There is no getting used to this. Because this is not acceptable.

Innocent people are dying. Children are dying.

To the families, friends, and anyone who is affected by these events, I am so sorry. I'm sorry that nothing has changed to stop these events from happening. I'm sorry that you are mourning the loss of a loved one far sooner than you should be.

Nobody should have to go through this kind of hurt.

I feel lucky that I have not been directly affected by these events, but everyday I feel heartbroken thinking about all those who are. The ones whose lives were wrongfully taken away. The families and friends of loved ones who didn't make it. The ones who sacrificed their lives to save another's. You are all in my thoughts.

To the ones who are in mourning, you are not alone. You are in my thoughts and prayers every night. I pray that this never has to happen again. I pray that finally someone does something about this.

How many innocent people have to die before something changes?

The time is now. No more excuses. No more deaths. This has to end.

To the affected communities, you're not alone. We are all mourning your loss. We are all one nation. When one community is in pain, we are all in pain. We are one country bound together by strength and love.

I know that there is nothing I can say to make the hurt stop. I know that my pain is nothing compared to what you are going through. But I just want you to know that I care. The rest of the nation, we all care. We are here for you. Nobody should be alone through a tragedy like this.

Rest in peace to all the innocent lives lost due to these tragic acts of hate. You will not be forgotten. I send my love and my prayers to you and all your loved ones.

To the rest of the nation, stay strong. We will get through this. We always do.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
