This week had a lot of media coverage and was a very important week of history in the United States. On Tuesday November 8, 2016; America had the very big duty of electing their new president. The candidates were Donald Trump of the Republican party and Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party. The parties had a much media coverage and a lot of hate against them. This article is going to express my view of the entire presidential election and what I have witnessed and dealt with since about 1:45 am on Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday November 8, 2016 I had the adult privilege of voting for the President of the United States. This was my first time being able to vote for the leader of our country and I was beyond excited. I had done some research on both candidates to see which one I would like as our leader. They both were not my ideal leaders but between talking to my parents and as I said looking up information on them both I had made my final decision. I hadn't told anyone whom I was going to vote for besides my parents. The time came to vote in the town my college is in and I filled out the ballet with ease and turned it in. I had a sense of being nervous, scared and knowing that our future was in the hand of the country men and women.
That night I said up watching the presidential election on my TV while reading for my Anthropology class because I am a student and I don't get a day off even for the election or any other holiday. I was up until 1:34 am to find out if Hillary or Trump was going to win. At that time I was relieved that Trump had won with 276 votes and I could finally rest easy. Many people can judge, call me names and do whatever they feel is right to make themselves feel better but at the end of the day you cannot change what I put on my ballot or what the country as whole has decided.
Later that morning I woke for classes but always scroll through my Facebook to find out some local news and to look at cute puppies. I was shocked to find out how much hatred was on my social media. I soon became very pissed when the riots of burning American flags showed up. I got of of the app and went to class to get my mind off of it.
Later that night it popped back up on my Facebook because I mindlessly clicked on it. I soon became pissed again because people were being so disrespectful of the flag that has evolved and covered so many caskets of the men and woman who have served to keep us all free and safe from war. This flag is more than just red and blue strips and white stars. This flag is a symbol of our freedom and citizens felt the need to riot and burn this massive symbol of America. Many people were saying that, "he (Donald Trump) was not their president" along with "F*ck Donald Trump". I understand their frustration I just don't understand why they had to take out their anger on the American flag. I feel like these people should be placed into jail for vandalism of this item.
Overall this presidential election has brought much hate and death to this country. People are tearing this country apart rather than rising together to settle their differences and accept what is already set in history. We as a nation should talk about our differences in a healthy way to understand each other points of views and to educate each other on our fears are.
American citizens I urge you to take a moment before lashing out on others or yourself because of your anger that happens because of this debate. Think of all the possible outcomes and if you really feel like you need to talk about it with someone to see a counselor or therapist. America can make it through this we just need to be rational about our decisions before we do something that we cannot change or take back.
I hope this article has opened your eyes to a different perspective on this major part of history. Have a blessed weekend and thank the Lord and the men and woman who serve this country to keep us war free on this land and safe.
