An Open Letter From The Person That's Disgusted With Violence

When the power of love overcomes the love over power, this world will know peace - Jimi Hendrix

An Open Letter From The Person That's Disgusted With Violence

When I was little, I was always so excited about growing up. I always saw adults going to work, having fun, smiling, laughing, amongst many other great things. Now, if you were to fast-forward I am in my twenties & I wish more than anything I can go back to being little.

I never thought in my life I would have to be scared to go out, to live my life, or to put it in the simplest terms... have fun. Many people agree when others will say "you can't live in fear because that's what they want, they want you to live in fear & once you allow that to happen they have won."

Terrorism in this country has begun to spiral out of control. It is absolutely sickening that you have to be worried about going to school, going to the movies, going to a concert, going to the mall, or even going to support someone at your local race. It is scary to think that terrorists are EVERYWHERE and we have no idea when they are going to strike or whom they are targeting.

Just in this past month alone, two main acts of terrorism have taken place on American soil. The shootings in Orlando, Florida at the Pulse Night Club, which left fifty people dead and 53 people injured. Another act of terrorism that took place at a meet and greet for singer Christina Grimmie who was shot and killed right after her performance by a man named Kevin Loibl.

Acts of terror are not just from terrorist organizations. Acts of terror are any form of murder, shooting, or killing in general. To be honest with you, to look at stats of how many shootings that have been occurring in this country lately is absolutely heart wrenching and in some ways disgusting. Disgusting to think that human beings choose violence so often nowadays.

It is because of the shootings so often occurring that the idea of gun control has often been spoken about. Gun control only works when you are purchasing a firearm from a store. MOST, not all, of these shootings have taken place with guns that have been purchased ILLEGALLY.

I feel as if this world is getting scarier and nothing is being done about it. Wars occur but nothing stops, people die, but for what? It is a scary world we live in and I hope that one day this will all end.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
