An Ode To The Lonely Musician

And how you may help him.

All musicians know this feeling, you just created a new song, put hours and hours within this song. You believe it's finally perfect, you've been listening to it over and over again. You think it's your best work yet. You go to upload it on some type of social music website, you pick the perfect picture, you hit the browse button to find your music you're gonna upload. With the music ready to send you sit there and stare at the screen. You wonder if anyone even cares, which is a frightening proposition. It's not a matter of rather anyone will like your music, its a matter of if anyone will listen to it. I'm not scared of public opinion. I'm scared of the lack of. Who knew the internet could be such a lonely place.

Behind keyboard warriors, trolls, and the frequent poster. You would think the internet would be a great place to share your music. But, there is a mental barrier to it. That hard work that you have put in to the music you have currently made. You would think you would be eager to put your music out there. But, that is not always the case. If I did put it out there who would even want to listen to it. These emotions that I put into these lyrics, the part of my personality that I put in this instrumental. Everything about this song is apart of me. If I put it out there it would be like tearing my heart out of my chest, and putting it on a platter for everyone to see. Please take a stab at it. Sure some will praise it, but most people will think they know better. What's even worse is that most people will ignore it. My heart will be left out in the open with not a single person to even notice it. To me that is worse than someone taking notice to it and poking it. Because, for someone to poke at it would be for someone to notice it in the first place.

That being said the next time you see someone posting their music on social media. Give it a listen. Even if it's "not your style". Take a second to listen to the lyrics. Take a second to listen to the instrumental. Close your eyes, and imagine a dark place. With every strum, beat, high note, low note, and rhyme. Picture a bright light taking place in the middle of this dark place. It's illuminating a city that's been dark for quite some time. You see the graffiti on the walls are telling a story. If that story is something you can't relate to by the end of the song, then that's fine. But, with every listen you're illuminating the musicians dark city. When the musician see's that his work got another listen, he realizes maybe people do care? This goes against the tone of his dark lyrics. With every listen you're out to prove the musician wrong of his idea of pain and darkness. You're illuminating him, as he's hoping to illuminate you.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
