Sophomore year has gone by so fast, yet at the same time I feel like it's lasted forever. It's crazy to think that college is already halfway over. Along with the end of all of my exams, and hopefully some good grades to follow, I can't help but reminisce over the last 10 months.
I began this school year with a completely different group of people than I ended last school year with. That was definitely a change for the better. This year has seen so many different people come and go, but I'm beginning to get the feeling that that's just how life is: coming and going. Friendships drift, people transfer. Then sometimes there's that one great new friend that pops up a few weeks before the end of the semester that you have everything in common with and that makes it almost impossible to truly want to go home for the summer.
The year was full of so many memories: traveling abroad, making even closer friends than some of the strange friendships from welcome week that somehow lasted all the way through freshman year. Some great weekends were had, while others were not so great, and even more that might not even be remembered. Some nights produced fights, but more often than not they were just fun times. Schoolwork took over occasionally, but we all somehow survived that. Sometimes schoolwork was completely ignored and replaced by a few hours of Netflix, but it all worked out for the best in the end.
This year I learned what I value most in life. This may sound cheesy, but the most important thing to me is memories. I want to do well in school and graduate on time or early, but in the end if the choice is between studying a little extra or going to the mall or the park with my friends, I'll almost always choose the latter. Granted, I've always been naturally good at winging stuff and still managing to get an A or a B, so maybe that particular choice isn't meant for everyone. All I know is that I made that choice a lot this semester and still ended up with grades better than I've had all throughout college so far (I blame the huge adjustment of freshman year for that, but I also may have been a bit lazy last year).
A big shoutout to all those friends that stuck by to the end, the ones that were there for late night runs to Cookout and Taco Bell, the ones always down for a fun night out on the weekend, and always ready for a spur of the moment shopping spree. So here's to sophomore year: thankfully better than freshman year, and hopefully surpassed in greatness by junior year.
