An Ode To My Sushi Roll

It's actually an ode to my best friends.

An Ode To My Sushi Roll

I, like any other sorority girl, love sushi. So not only is this article a love letter to sushi and what makes it great, but a love letter to my friend group. You guys rock. I am forever thankful to have friends like you.

1. The Seaweed

Oh, Seaweed, you hold us together. We would be nothing if we didn't have you in our lives. You're not the most attractive in the group, but you do have the biggest heart. You care about us and you comfort us when no one else does. You're unique to our group of misfits all rolled up into one lump, and I appreciate that about you. We're lucky to have a piece of seaweed like you.

2. The Rice

Rice, you're like Seaweed, but you don't just hold us together; you're the reason we're together. We all started being friends because of you. You're kind and funny and you touch each of us in a different way. For me, you're my favorite part, my best friend. You stuck to me that very first time we met and haven't let go since. I love you're ever changing personality and how you're constantly changing your mind. It used to seem so annoying that you couldn't just make up your mind, but now I understand. You love people and you always try to understand everyone else's point of view, which is why you're always changing your mind. Thank you for being so empathetic and for being the best part of our group.

3. The Cucumber

Cu, you're really something different. You're crunchy and zesty. You give our lives texture. Without you we would just be a blob of mushy fish-rice and seaweed. You make our lives an adventure. You're always up for something new. You're the person that always offers up new ideas on what we can do this weekend and is not going to take no for an answer when it comes to actually seeing those adventures through. We love you for that. I wouldn't have had most of my experiences if it wasn't for your love of adventure.

4. The Cream Cheese

You, my dear friend, do not make sense in our group when you think about it. You don't belong at all... But you fit in with us perfectly. I don't know who's idea it was to invite you to hang out with us for the first time, but man, I'm happy that they did. You, like Cucumber, make our lives exciting. Your cheesy jokes and carefree ways are always appreciated.

5. The Salmon

We are lucky to have a fishy friend like you, Sal. You make our lives better in every way. Your spunk and love of all things fun keep us going. I can always count on you to side with Cucumber on stupid adventures because the two of you are kindred spirits. Your positive outlook on life and refusal to see anything but the bright side of every situation motivates all of us when we think there can be no good outcome. Thank you for your pep talks and for making me a more optimistic person.

6. The Crab

Full of flavor and sweetness with just a hint of salt, I don't know where we would be without you. Your attitude keeps us all on our toes and though we used to think "wow, calm down" every time you had a mood swing, we've now learned to laugh at them and accept that it's just who you are. You're over-emotional and at times overwhelming, but you never judge us and you always keep us laughing. I love watching you and Glaze play off of each other with your ridiculous amount of witty comebacks and pop culture references. I wish I was a funny and witty and attractive as you are.

7. The Avocado

My health nut of a friend, you add so much diversity to our group. I never would've thought we'd be friends, but here we are. I'm grateful to whoever said, yeah let's add some Avocado, because they added a lot to my life. Thanks for encouraging me to exercise (even though I never do) and asking me to go to the gym with you (even though I never will). I know that it will always be an option and you'll never stop offering even though I consistently turn you down. I love your consistency (ha get it?) and being able to count on you when I can't count on anyone else.

8. The Glaze

We don't know what you are; you're personality changes by the minute. Sweet or salty or sassy? Who knows. What I do know is that you're icing on the cake of our sushi roll. You constantly make us smile and laugh, because that's who you are. We could live without you, but we don't want to. Our lives are so much better because of your presence in them and I'm forever grateful to have a friend who makes it a priority to have happy friends. You may be judgy, but thank you for never judging me for the stupid decisions I make on a daily basis. PS- you're funnier than Crab but don't tell anyone I said that.

I love you, Sushi Roll. You guys are the badabing sauce on my life.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
