This week I decided to bring back one of my favorite pieces that I've written, An Ode To Love. Although I've never been in love romantically, love has reached me in so many ways. From my family and friends to the kind strangers on the street, love is boundless. I hope as you read through this poem you are reminded of those who love you and those you love in return.
An Ode To Love
Were I to personify your heart, I would denominate it a beautiful goddess, one who cradles the world on the tips of her fingers.
Were I to emphasize our love, I would do it in such a way that the stars would align whenever our eyes met.
Were I to protect you from the cold, I would wrap you in gold from head to toe, leaving simply your lips to whisper the sounds of my adoration for you.
Were I to bring you to life once more, I would destroy the fallacies keeping you imprisoned, and ask for nothing in return but metallic scissors to cut the chains upon your heart.
Were I to follow you, it should be naught for your affluence or fame but for the way the sky lights up a beautiful crystal blue when you utter my name.
But I shall not, for I am broken glass slipping between your fingertips, and you are the warm hands that need not even gloves to keep your heat.
Were I to say to you one last thought, I would tell you that you are boundless, I would tell you to stretch your limbs until your blood runs cold and run until the soles on your feet are no more.
I would tell you to live the life I never could, to ignore the flashes of red that appear in the corner of your eye, because they speak of a time that matters no more.
Were I to adore you, i would paint the colors of passion across the moon, and dance under the moonlight of our affection.
Were I to describe perfection, I would say nothing, because that word could never come close to encompassing the sound of your laughter on a cool summer night.
Were I to label you, I would need not a selection of carefully placed vocabulary, but simply just one single word.
You are love.
