Oh, Valentine's Day. You're the holiday that celebrates only one thing: Love. This is especially when romantic movies and friends with boyfriends/girlfriends are being shoved in your face all in one day. But there is more to love than just romantic companionship.
Friendship is just as important an element of love as romance, especially the bond between close gal pals. Enter "Galentine's Day," a day for girls to celebrate not only their womanhood, but also the friendships they share. It's a day to celebrate being a woman, regardless of whether you're in a relationship or not.
The concept, most notably, came to us in the form of "Parks and Recreation." Every February 13, Leslie Knope and her lady friends (including Ann Perkins, April Ludgate, Donna Meagle, and Leslie's mother, Marlene) would go out for breakfast and leave the worries of their husbands and boyfriends behind for some girl bonding time. The women celebrate not only the friendship they all share, but how proud they are to be amazingly strong women.
Now your Galentine's Day doesn't have to follow what Leslie Knope does. Everyone can have their own Galentine's Day, whether it's going out on the town for some drinks or staying in, watching movies, and eating all the chocolate and popcorn you want. The possibilities are endless.
The most important part of Galentine's Day is that you and your gal pals are having the times of your lives. There's no need to worry about princes at all. You ladies are the queens, and you rule the day. Besides, queens have higher power than princes anyway.
Hope you didn't sulk on Valentine's Day. All the mushy gushy stuff in "Titanic" and "The Notebook" is overrated anyway. You shouldn't have any reason to complain about your broken heart or whine that you don't have a boyfriend.
From now on and on every Valentine's Day, be proud of the woman you are, and hang out with the ladies that make you strong. Go out for breakfast, go out for some drinks, and watch "Mean Girls" until the sun comes up. Valentine's Day is so yesterday. Galentine's Day is the ultimate girl power holiday that should be celebrated every year.
