An Inquiry Into Human Form

Society constantly pressures us to pursue this human form, but it may be more damaging than people think.

Is society pressuring us to fit this "human form"? Is there a human form? Does conformity allow us to be responsible citizens? These are some of the questions that pop into my head when I think of human form. The essence of this human form is unclear, however.

By essence, I mean the very nature of this thing I am calling human form. As a society, specifically in the United States, there is this so-called human form which allows us to be responsible citizens. However, this human form is just a conformity. When we conform to this idea of human form, we allow ourselves to be manipulated by the government, by the laws of which our society is controlled, and for us to forget our rights which we believe the officials are upholding every step of the way.

There's this idea of the "American Dream" in which we are supposed to get an education, start a family, and work the majority of our lives. While this is true, the American Dream should not be the controlling factor of our lives. To put the societal human form into an analogy, our society has been creating a cookie cutter way of life. Society pulls us into this trap. There is no reason for us to be identical in every way. We don't have to wake up every morning and go to work from 9-5, then come home to our family, make dinner, and go to bed. There's this idea that everyone has to have a job.

I propose an alternative definition of the human form. While there is some truth to a human form, that is, we are all humans and thus are contributing to this human form. To be human is to have your own mind, thoughts, actions, methods, and personality. We are each our own person. We have our own personality, our own methods, and our own actions. This is why we need to break away from this idea hanging over our head that we need to measure our success by how much money we make or by fulfilling this "American Dream." We should define our own successes and find our own paths that are pleasant and fruitful and will win for us peace and happiness.

Be a definer of your own successes. We need to find our own ways of happiness and find something that we enjoy doing. Instead of having a job, you should have a career. Finding what you enjoy is the ultimate goal. Even if you do have a job, turn your job into a career because when you do that, you give yourself the opportunity to move up the line. If you enjoy your job, then this is a feasible option for you. It's never all about money, although money is necessary to live in our society, we should not measure our success in this way. I measure my success in overall happiness, and I do things with a purpose, that is, to make me happy, thus giving me my success.

I call to young people, and even the elder groups to find your own happiness and create your human form. It is never too late to change your career to improve your quality of life. Be who you are and be who you want to be, not what someone else wants you to be. Fight against the societal human form in each facet of life. You are your own person.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
