Drone VS. Human

I will NOT be a drone and that is just how I am.

Drone VS. Human

Another day another liberal millennial, and in today's society, I am seen as an outcast. Why should I change myself to fit others? It’s is my body right, so why are companies so focused on a drone culture rather than celebrating the individual. You want personality and during your internships you ask us what makes us unique, we answer proudly thinking “I have found a company that values individuality,” WRONG! You ask but you don’t care because we live in a society that has a twisted view on personal expressionism.

A personal expression defined in the Oxford dictionary is Expression of one’s own personality, feelings or ideas through speech or art. Funny right there in the definition is one’s own personality through art. Can a company define what art is…? I don’t think so as many individuals have been trying to define art for years and have yet to come to a common consensus.

I understand that many companies have rules and a dress code but why does our personal expression on our bodies have anything to do with your company, I would think that companies would be happy to have a diverse culture in their workplace, but maybe I am wrong. Then again it is the twenty-first century, yet some cultures are still stuck in the past with their rules and regulations.

Now, I am a millennial so many will say that I am just being idealistic and that sometimes you just must conform to society, but what is wrong with standing out and being different isn’t that what being your own person is all about. I haven’t fit into any of the boxes that people have tried to put me in, a long time. I’m part of the LGBTQ community, I have a disability, and I am not a party person.

I am what some call a typical idealist, but why is that a terrible thing; when did being an idealist and believing that as society changes so should the companies that are a part of that society become a bad thing? I am someone that believes that if you are not open to change then today, then something is wrong. We are in an ever-changing environment that has no room for those that don’t want to adapt.

My generation is not a generation of conformists we are born to stand out. We work our hands to the bone and yet those of older generations believe that we don’t want to work that we are lazy. That is simply not the case, we want to work but at the same time we are not drones for you to work to death for little to no money, living is expensive I cannot find an apartment anywhere while working on minimum wage 50 hours a week.

I couldn't afford even with two jobs and four roommates in a place where they are looking for people with my qualifications. If companies want drones that work for nothing, then hire a robot period! I am an individual I have galaxy hair that is cut in a pixie shape and I have my own personality I will work and I will work hard but don’t make me change because you cannot adapt to a change in society. I am proud of who I am, yes I am a nonconformist that doesn't like how some companies will not change as the world changes but that is how some people think and I hope that will change because I will NOT be a drone and that is just how I am.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
