An Evaluation Of The Oscars

The Oscars this past Sunday night was truly a night to remember. With the several ups and downs that took place, we can all ask one question- what the heck happened? Two major mistakes occurred, one of which resulted in two people actually being fired from working for the Oscars ever again. Host Jimmy Kimmel took every mistake in stride, and added humor to what was a very chaotic night. However, even he had a few downfalls. He reused a lot of his jokes, and ended up causing a debate as to whether he was being inappropriate at times. He made several jabs at Donald Trump, as well as several celebrities in the audience. It was all in good fun, but some argue that it was inappropriate.

It happened once and now it has happened again: the wrong winner was announced on live television. Warren Beatty pulled a Steve Harvey and announced the wrongwinner, and it already has a hashtag trending: the #envelopegate. It was undoubtedly the biggest mistake in the history of the Oscars as we know it, and arguably a worse mistake than the situation with Steve Harvey. Beatty, along with Faye Dunaway, announced that the winner of 2017’s Best Picture was La La Land, when it was actually Moonlight. To make matters worse, the entire La La Land cast was already on the stage giving their acceptance speeches before the mistake was realized. I really do not know what I would have done in this situation, but one thing’s for sure: La La Land producer, Jordan Horowitz, handled it in style.

Despite how much of a blow this was to not only the cast of La La Land, but also to the Oscars in general, it was a true learning experience for viewers. The mistake taught us that despite how difficult, embarrassing, or disappointing a situation turns out, what matters is how we react to it. Was the cast upset? Absolutely. But did they run off the stage cursing off the Oscars industry and Moonlight? Not in the least. They handled the situation with respect and stride, and producer Jordan Horowitz was the one who announced the mistake. I think that this mistake can be a huge lesson to viewers, despite how unfortunate it was. Mistakes happen, whether it is a minor one, or a major one that is on national television. Unfortunately, two people did get fired for the mistake. How it happened, we may never know.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
