As a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, I pride myself and my sisters for our love of giving. We have three amazing philanthropies that we try our hardest to give sufficient amount of time to. They include: Girl Scouts of the USA, Prevent Child Abuse America and The Women's Confidence Coalition.
Each year, the College of Charleston chapter of Kappa Delta puts on a golf tournament called "Shamrock Project." This year, it falls on February 25, and will take place at Charleston National Golf Course in Mount Pleasant, SC.
100 percent of the money from the golfers and donations go straight to Prevent Child Abuse America. Eighty percent goes to our local chapter of PCAA, called Darkness To Light. We work hands on with this wonderful organization to spread awareness, and of course, to raise money to help stop child abuse. The other twenty percent goes to the national organization of PCAA.
Today, I made my way around Charleston asking different businesses if they were willing to donate to the tournament, and each store/restaurant I stopped in had smiling and willing managers to help this significant cause. The importance of joining together as a community is what will help the 3.3 million annual reports of child abuse diminish. Spreading awareness, giving, and volunteering are the ways to take part in any great cause.
Last year, Kappa Delta raised almost $50,000 for children in need. Our goal this year is to raise even more. Our Shamrock Project Chair, Rylee P., has done a phenomenal job spreading the word about the tournament. Kappa Delta is very excited to see the community's enthusiasm for a day of golfing and charity, so much so, that we would say that it is a hole-in-one!
