Crisp and cool
Majestic Maple sheds her scarlet and butterscotch dress.
Limbs bare now,
She shivers in the cold.
Gazing upon her kingdom –
a junkyard of boats
Sailing through a sea of leaves -
And weeds their only captain.
Dead lawnmowers lie buried beneath
Majestic Maple’s discarded dress.
A vee of geese honk their goodbye -
From tree to tree squirrels leap,
Flurries of snow fall from a cloudless sky
Majestic Maple sleeps.
