In my travels for work I sometime get a little time to explore. The Falls of Spokane are in a word, awe-inspiring. The city has done an incredible job of highlighting, preserving, and maintaining the falls for all to see.
The falls consists of an Upper Falls and a Lower Falls. The Upper Falls is the site of the Upper Falls Dam constructed in 1920. The Upper Falls Power Plant has a turbine capable of generating electricity for the surrounding city. The Lower Falls is the site of a second dam, the Monroe Street Dam. Completed in 1890, it was the first dam built on the Spokane River and is currently the longest-running hydroelectric generation facility in Washington State
