An Adventure To York, Maine

Since school is about to start back up and time will once again be extremely limited for me, I used some of my last minutes of free time over break to take a day trip to my favorite place, York, Maine. I go there multiple times a year just to sit beside the water and take it all in; the sights, the sounds, the smells. I love it there. I swear I could go there everyday and be the happiest I’ve ever been. Since I can’t go everyday, when I do get to go, I enjoy every second. This consists of documenting basically my whole trip there every time I go. Using my pictures from my most recent adventure, I’m going to give you an insight on what a trip with me to Maine looks like and everything I do when I get there.

The night before, I packed all of the essentials: my camera, GoPro, and my super cute Love Your Melon beanie and hat I was going to take pictures of! Going on a day trip consists of taking so many pictures, especially when I go to Maine. It's what I do.

After just over an hour of driving on nothing but highway, I finally made it to the beach, or lack there of. This was my view from the car when I parked next to the water. It was such a high tide that not a lot of sand was visible, but that didn't stop me from taking advantage of what sand was there...

To me, nothing beats this view. Sun, sand, and waves. Even if it was way too cold to actually go in the water (even to put my feet in, I've made that mistake before) it was so worth the drive for this view right here.

I can't go to this place and not come home with a hundred selfies. No, seriously, you should see my camera roll. Oops.

After being at the beach for a while, I drove five minutes down the road to my favorite spot in York; Nubble Light. This place means so much to me for personal reasons and going back there is the best feeling. It's so peaceful and beautiful to take it all in. The view is breathtaking and, again, I can never seem to have enough pictures of this lighthouse either.

Remember those beanies I mentioned? I have a lot of them. And I take pictures of them everywhere because why not spread the word about a good cause by using my favorite places as a backdrop? So, that's what I did.

Surprise, another selfie. Does it get much better than this view? Surrounded by nothing but rocks and water. The climb down the rocks is always pretty interesting, too. At least there wasn't snow this time!

Just as I was about to pack up my camera and leave the lighthouse, a flock of seagulls scattered all around the rocks I was on and towards the lighthouse in front of me. It seemed too perfect not to take a picture of it.

As I packed up my things and got ready to leave, I had to stop for at least one more shot of the lighthouse from my the perspective of where my car was parked. There are never too many angles to a picture of the lighthouse, either.

My last view of the lighthouse before I had to start my journey back home. An areal shot seemed appropriate because you really get to see everything to do with this place all in one picture.

During this trip to Maine, I only stopped at the beach and the lighthouse. In the past, however, I have stopped at the Kittery Outlets on my way home and I have also been to Portsmouth, NH which is the cutest town ever to go shopping. A trip to Maine is never just a trip to Maine for me, it's a lot of memories, a peaceful time to myself and an opportunity to do what I love, take pictures. There's no doubt in my mind that I'll be back when the weather gets nicer again because the second I leave this place I want to go back to it. Everyone has a place, their place; this is mine.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
