An Accurate Description Of The Beginning Of Summer

In This Article:

A year of college is now complete!! As I am writing this, I have been back at home for exactly a week. Here are some things that have come to mind with all my recent spare time and lack of school work to keep me occupied. I am sure most college students could relate to these thoughts that have been running through my mind.

"I definitely brought too much stuff"

Packing up all the stuff from your dorm room is in no way fun. What is even worse is bringing it all back home and attempting to find a place for it all. After looking at all the stuff I took, I am determined to not take as much with me to MSU for sophomore year. My room is currently half dorm decor and half all the other items that were already there. It's a mess.

"Time to catch up on sleep"

Finals wear you out! While technically you cannot make up for lost sleep, there's no harm in trying and allowing yourself to sleep in for once!

"It's nice to have my own room"

My dorm was a nice size. I in no way felt cramped and loved sharing the room with my roommate, but it is nice to not have to worry about splitting a space equally. My room is all my space!

"I miss my college friends"

It's weird not being able to walk down the hall or walk somewhere close by to see your friends. Now, I am one if not more states away from them. Sure we will keep in touch this summer, but it is not the same as being able to see them in person whenever

" I wonder when my friends from (insert any university) will be home"

Finally, now that it is summertime I can see my friends from home! Some are already back while others are currently taking their finals. I am just excited for us to all be back in the same place again.

All in all, being back home for over 3 months is an adjustment to make.

But I am happy to be home and can't wait to have more fun.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
