Toy Box: An Independent Artist's Child

As an independent artist, I tried to capture my thoughts about losing my childhood friend in 'Toy Box.'

Even though I miss my childhood friend, more than anything else, I am thankful that our friendship had such a positive effect on my life. I hope that they, too, are finding their own happiness, wherever they may be. I hope that readers can relate to this song, as I think that this is a universal feeling that everyone can relate to. I wrote this song on the edge of naivety.

"Toy Box"

I hope this letter finds you

My dearest of dear friends

For many moons I've wondered

How that you had been

The last time that I saw you

We were just small tykes

We colored with our crayons

We trudged our path on bikes

I remember crying

And skies as grey as coal

The day you left this small town

You took my heart in tow

[Chorus]

But if I put you in my toy box

Would you promise that you'd stay?

Would you promise that we'd play

Like we did on yesterdays?

I know the word is changing

And I know that we are, too

But if I put you in my toy box

It might be like it used to

I hope this letter finds you

I hope it finds you well

I hope that it reminds you

Of the time we sailed

You were a captain

and I a buccaneer

You and me together

Never a fear

Never a fear

Never a one

[Repeat Chorus]

I couldn't write this letter

In any ink or pen

So I bought Crayolas

To channel me from then

And if this letter finds you

My childhood friend I miss

Everything we ever did

Has made me reminisce.

Attached is a link to the recorded version of this song. I tried to maintain a live feel to the song, as I think that heavy production would mar my most honest song.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

Happy Birthday Cake

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

The holiday season is full of stress, debt, and forced conversation. While we rush through the month of December, it's important to take a step back and enjoy the moments before they're gone. Most families love to watch Christmas movies, but these beloved films provide more than entertainment. Here are 10 life lessons that I've learned from the holiday classics we watch every year.

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

From sea to shining sea, the United States was uniquely positioned for an incredible Aurora Borealis display on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, going into Friday, Oct. 11.

It was the second time this year after an historic geomagnetic storm in May 2024. Those Northern Lights were visible in Europe and North America, just like this latest rendition.
