Through Rose Colored Glasses

When to look at life through the pink tint.

Heart shaped with warm tinted lenses, my rose colored glasses are always sitting on the end of my nose. This gives me the opportunity to stare through them when optimism seems the only way to work through a bad situation, and the opportunity to peer over them when reality has to sink in.

Seeing the world through rose colored glasses leaves a feeling that fills the body with warm nostalgia and light blissful smiles. Unfortunately, sometimes idealism has to be replaced with realism. But a good dose of positivity is something everyone in our society could use right about now.

Finding a balance between keeping those glasses on and off can be a challenge. You never want to leave them on so long that it blinds you to the severity of reality, but you never want to block out the silver linings in life either. Different occasions in our society can call for your glasses to be on or off. The proper balance of both can lead to a better life.

As times change, humans tend to recoil at certain new situations. Maybe not from new technology or new fashion trends, but from the new opinions, ways of life, leaders and relationships we encounter. Times like these call for a good mix of peering through your glasses and facing the world all on your own.

Once you've taken on the world and seen reality through your own eyes, you have to make a decision. Do you choose to leave your glasses off and battle with all realness? Or for a brief moment allow yourself to slip on your glasses and take a positive spin on the situation you're in.

Neither of these choices are necessarily right or wrong. How you view life and the world is up to you. Leaving your glasses on for too long may block you from actuality, but everyone needs a good reality check in their life. However, putting on rose colored glasses during rough times can provide the strength and good outlook you need to rise from the ashes of a bad situation.

Be aware of the world, but let optimism be your best friend in times where you see things as bleak. Find your balance between facing the music and seeing the sunny side. Understanding the negative but choosing to add a dash of positivity is what will keep you afloat in dark periods.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
