Let's be real: I've wanted to be half-fish ever since Ariel first floated her way into my VHS player in 1994. There's something magical about mermaids: the beautiful hair, the sparkly tail, the serenity of the ocean, and having nothing to worry about except where to swim next and which sailors to rescue. Still, with today's shortage of sea witches, I've yet to find a way to turn my two legs into flippers. If you've ever been anything like me, and would trade the land for the sea any day, here are 15 products (some practical, some just pretty) to help you finally feel like the mermaid you are.

1. Sea Spray from Lush

The cardinal rule of being a mermaid? You've gotta have beach hair 24/7. Lush's Sea Spray gives you awesome beach-y waves and smells like the ocean. An added bonus? Lush is cruelty free, so none of our fishy friends were harmed in the making of this product.

2. BB Seaweed from Lush

Another one from Lush, this BB Seaweed mask is made with every mermaid's favorite plant, in addition to aloe vera, almonds, rose, olive oil, and honey. It leaves your skin feeling soothed and smooth, for that fresh just-popped-out-of-the-water look.

3. What Mermaids Are Made Of Highlighter

In the make-up department, we've got this gorgeous highlighter from Love Luxe Beauty. Is it practical for everyday wear? Maybe not, depending on your makeup routine. But will those opal-looking scales make you happy every time you see them? Definitely.

4. Sea Shell Sleep Mask

Even mermaids need beauty sleep. To block out that pesky sun, slip on this sea-shell mask, turn on your ocean sounds, and dream of life with a tail. Bonus: the mask also comes in gold and pink!

5. A Mermaid Tail Blanket

If you thought you were going to make it through this list without seeing a mermaid tail blanket, you were sorely mistaken. I'm currently crushing on this teal blanket from Seatail; it's great for naps, relaxing, and hiding your true human identity. There are also tons of blankets like this for sale on Etsy, and if you're into DIY, you can even purchase the pattern to knit one yourself.

6. This Sequin Pillow Sham

Another way to show your mermaid spirit in your space is with some shimmery pillow cases; these sequin-covered beauties are also from Seatail, and will remind you of the tail you'd love to have.

7. Mermaid Artwork

Mermaid artwork is key for any siren-wannabe. Look for prints on Etsy in watercolor; your room will look put-together and whimsical, instead of cartoony. The mermaid pictured can be found here, and some of her gorgeous friends can be found here, here, and here.

8. Mermaid Scale Hat

Mermaid stuff isn't limited to your room or your beauty routine; you can also wear your mermaid pride! This hat from the Disney fans at Cakeworthy is perfect for Coney Island's Annual Mermaid Parade, but it's on sale, so if you like it, snatch it before it disappears!

9. Verameat's Mermaid Ring

This ring from indie jewelry company Verameat is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry; be careful with sweaters though, because the tail does have a tendency to snag on yarn. To complete your sea-inspired collection, Verameat also sells a kissing seahorse ring and a dainty little pirate's wheel.

10. Alex and Ani Mermaid Bangle

If rings aren't your thing, try a bracelet to show off your inner fish. This bangle from Alex and Ani comes in both silver and gold, and looks beautiful when layered with blue stones.

11. Hot Topic's Little Mermaid Collection

If you're as obsessed with Ariel as I am, Hot Topic will be your best friend when it comes to mermaid clothing. This shirt is particularly great, but they have whos-its and whats-its galore, from hair bows to backpacks, art work to bathing suits, and so much more.

12. A Mer-tote

This one's from Human, and honestly, it explains itself. In addition to this tote, Human also provides an entire section of lovely mermaid shirts and artwork.

14. This Mermaid Water-Bottle

Want to encourage good habits and also show your mermaid pride? This water bottle is for you! Get it here on Etsy.

15. A Swimmable Mermaid Tail

For those who are truly committed to the mermaid life, you can purchase a swimmable mermaid tail to use every time you get in the water. The best quality ones come from the Mertailor Eric Ducharme, who has made tails for clients like Lady Gaga and the famed Weeki Wachee Springs mermaids. An Eco Tail, made from spandex and polyester, will run about $125. However, the silicone tails, the ones made for film and television, the ones that will make you believe that you were born with fins, can cost anywhere from $500 to $2,500. But hey, can you really put a price on a childhood dream?

So there you have it: a comprehensive list of all things mermaid, to help you cope with life on land. Fellow fishies, did I miss your favorite thingamabob? Let me know in the comments, and happy swimming.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
